Why We Love Girls In Aviation Day Twin Cities
The Twin Cities Girls in Aviation Day (GIAD) 2022 was held this past Saturday (9/24) at the Flying Cloud Airport (KFCM) in Eden Prairie, Minnesota. It is one of my favorite aviation related events to attend. This free event, although geared towards introducing young girls to aviation, allows the local community to come out and experience aviation in its purest form, something that I am deeply passionate about. This event closely aligns with our core values and our goal of getting more people, especially underrepresented groups, into aviation. This is why I am happy to say that Hobbs Flyer was a proud sponsor of our local Girls in Aviation Day (GIAD2022) this year.
GAID is geared toward educating and inspiring young girls to discover the adventurous world of aviation. Since its inception in 2015, this annual event has grown every year and it is now a worldwide event. I am also proud to say that our local Twin Cities event is the biggest in the world because it is supported by a thriving aviation community here in the Twin Cities.
Although I've attended many of these events over the years as a spectator, this is our second year as an exhibitor. I enjoy seeing the smiles and the look of wonder on the faces of children when they visit our booth, put on one of our Hobbs Flyer H2 headsets, and listen to KFCM ATIS for the first time in amazement. Then the questions follow. Though my own kids are not strangers to our local airports, aviation events, nor to airplanes, I treasure taking them to this particular event and around to the different vendor booths to have them participate in all the instructional and learning activities that's available to them.
If you are looking for a great and easy way to introduce your family, students or youth groups to aviation, I urge you to seek out your local Women in Aviation International chapter to learn more and find out when your local GIAD will be held. For our readers local to the Twin Cities metro area, the next GIAD will be September 23, 2023 at the Flying Cloud Airport in Eden Prairie. Feel free to reach out to us if you need more information or for us to connect you with one of the local event organizers.
