EAA AirVenture Oshkosh, Where It All Started

Welcome to Hobbs Flyer Blog! My name is Sean and I am the founder of Hobbs Flyer. I’ve always had an immense passion for aviation. Growing up, my dream was to become a pilot and own an airline. I haven't achieved the whole airline owning thing (yet), but I have achieved my dream of becoming a pilot after being inspired by my first visit to AirVenture in 2010.

Hobbs Flyer is pilot-owned and operated and based in Minneapolis, Minnesota. We aim to bring affordable, modern, and insanely comfortable aviation headsets and accessories to the aviation community. Our goal is to help get more people into aviation and do our part to make aviation more accessible and affordable.

After decade of helping fellow pilots by repairing, refurbishing servicing their headsets and also selling new and used aviation headsets and accessories online through eBay, Amazon, and Craigslist, I launched Hobbs Flyer 2020 with the goal of bringing affordable modern aviation headsets to market. Our H2 headsets are designed to be insanely comfortable yet affordable. I also believe that pilots should do their part to prepare the next generation of pilots. With this belief I created the My Little Eagle line of youth aviation headsets and accessories so that kids too can experience a quiet and comfortable aviation headset that actually fits.

The magical experience I got from attending AirVenture for the first time inspired me to go out and pursue my dream and become a pilot. As soon as I arrived home from Oshkosh, I started researching flight schools in my area and the requirements for becoming a pilot. I immediately bought materials, joined EAA and AOPA, started flight lessons, and started studying for the written exam. I may have over-studied a little because I got a perfect score on the written exam. Ten months after leaving AirVenture, I was finally a licensed pilot.

My ten months of flight training was challenging yet amazingly rewarding. During those ten months, I went through several different flight instructors, many overcast and windy non-flying winter days, traveling for work, and other distractions that kept me away from the airport. One of the things that I took away from this experience is that there will always be obstacles that get in the way of what you are trying to achieve but it is critical to stay focused and persevere.

If you are a person looking to get started in flying, you’ve come to the right place.
