This adapter allows you to use your civilian U-174 helicopter headset in Airbus, ATR, Embraer, and other aircraft equipped with a 5-pin XLR headset connection.

The Helicopter U-174 to Airbus 5-Pin XLR Adapter features a female U-174 helicopter jack on one end and a 5-pin Airbus / Embraer XLR connector on the other, allowing compatible Bose, David Clark, and Lightspeed helicopter headsets to be used in Airbus, ATR 42/72, Embraer, and other aircraft equipped with a 5-pin XLR headset connection.

Important: This adapter does not convert microphone impedance. Helicopter headsets equipped with a military microphone will require a civilian microphone for use with this adapter in Airbus, ATR, and Embraer aircraft. Civilian replacement microphones are available on our Headset Parts page.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will this adapter allow me to use my helicopter headset in an Airbus or Embraer aircraft?

Yes. This adapter converts a civilian U-174 helicopter headset to a 5-pin XLR connection, allowing compatible helicopter headsets to be used in Airbus, ATR, Embraer, and other aircraft equipped with a 5-pin XLR headset jack. It's compatible with Bose, Lightspeed, David Clark, and many other civilian helicopter headsets.

Will this adapter power my headset from the aircraft?

No. A U-174 helicopter plug is not capable of providing aircraft power. If your headset normally requires AA batteries for Active Noise Reduction (ANR), it will continue to require batteries when used with this adapter.

Will this adapter work with my Bose A20, Bose A30, or Lightspeed Delta Zulu helicopter headset?

Yes. This adapter is compatible with Bose A20, Bose A30, Bose ProFlight, older Bose AHX, Lightspeed Zulu, Delta Zulu, David Clark, and many other civilian helicopter headsets equipped with a U-174 plug. It converts the U-174 connection to a 5-pin XLR connection for use in Airbus, ATR, Embraer, and other compatible aircraft.

I have a Bose A20 military headset. Will this adapter work with my headset?

No. This adapter does not convert microphone impedance. If your headset is equipped with a low-impedance military dynamic microphone, you'll need to replace it with a high-impedance civilian electret microphone for proper operation in Airbus, ATR, Embraer, and other aircraft equipped with a 5-pin XLR headset connection.

You can find the compatible civilian replacement microphone here:

I purchased this adapter to convert my headset to a 5-pin Airbus XLR connection, but I can hear everyone and no one can hear me. What's the issue?

This is usually caused by using a military headset equipped with a low-impedance dynamic microphone. While the adapter will allow you to hear audio, it does not convert microphone impedance, so your microphone will not transmit properly.

To restore normal transmit operation, you'll need to replace the military microphone with a high-impedance civilian electret microphone. In some cases, the U-174 cable assembly may also need to be replaced, depending on your headset model.

If you're unsure which parts are required for your headset, contact us, and we'll be happy to help you identify the correct replacement components.
